Final Series Proposal

Tentative Series Name:

For this series I want to focus on taking portraits or scenery photos of lives outside of being a student. I will also most likely be adding a handwritten text, or I will include text somewhere in the photo.

How will you execute idea?:

To execute this idea, I would like to take photos of my friends, and the environment I spend my time in outside of school. I want to show raw images of what it’s like to put the superficial things over important things like my academics. I also want to add a couple self portraits in this series. If it’s not photos of my friends or portraits, I want to take staged photos or candid photos of certain environments that pertain to my lifestyle.

Why is this topic important to you? What do you want other people to understand? What do you hope this series will accomplish?:

This topic is important to me because it makes me who I am. Of course I can agree that what I do in school, and what I focus on for academics also makes me who I am, but a lot of the time, I feel as though those things get lost because of what I choose to prioritize. I want others to understand that the superficial things I choose over the “important” things in life aren’t things I’m proud of, but for some reason I can’t shake the habits. Through the photos in this series, I want people to have to question if it’s because of the superficial things that I lack motivation to do a lot of things that would benefit me, or if it’s because of nothing making me feel complete.

Any special conditions, equipment, or techniques needed?:

I will most likely need a key light, and a tripod because many of my photos will be taken during night time.

Output Method and Size:

For the series I plan on using traditional prints sized 9×12. I want the images to be look like they’re almost a collage — of course the photos looking like they go alongside one another.

Original file

Rite Aid

The best quality print came from Costco. I will always print at Costco, if not a professional photo printing center. As for adjustments, I will adjust the saturation and/or vibrance in order for the color to match the original file accurately. I will also adjust the exposure accordingly because it looks as though the prints look duller than the original file actually is.
