Series Proposal

Tentative Series Name: Home

State Idea: For this series I want to focus on my parents in different aspects of their home.

How will you execute idea? Through both formal and environmental portraits, I want to showcase the personal qualities of a home that my parents live in. I think the series will have both wide horizontal shots and vertical portrait shots.

Why is this topic important to you? What do you want other people to understand? What do you hope this series will accomplish? I want to focus on my parents in their home because I want to showcase how hard they work and what their home means to them. I want this series to bring out the pride they have for their home, coming to the USA from the Philippines. I hope that through this series people will learn to appreciate the hard work of their parents and admire them for their hard work.

Any special conditions, equipment, or techniques needed? I will probably need a reflector and a tripod.

Output Method and Size: For the series I plan on using prints sized 8×12. I want the image to show enough detail but also be small enough so my parents could eventually frame them around the house.

Portrait Research

For my self portrait, I plan to do something a little vulnerable as I will shoot on my bed where my warm christmas lights are displayed. I plan to cover my face and maybe convey the sense of motion with a long exposure. For my environmental photo I plan to shoot one of my coworkers at the Coffee Bean, showing them making a drink and being a cool barista. For my formal photo, I want to shoot on a bright blue or yellow background and feature my friend laughing or on the phone making a silly face at the camera to really show her personality. For my creative photo I plan to remake the famous Frank Ocean Blonde poster with my friend posing the same as Frank Ocean.

Ex G

  1. CVS
  2. Walgreens
  3. Target
  4. Costco
  5. Powell Camera Shop

The best quality photo was at Costco, and coming in at a close second was Powell Camera Shop. I think the Powell Camera Shop’s paper was better than Costco’s, but the colors were more accurate on the Costco print. Both had very nice and defined detail in each print. For the price and quality, I will definitely be going to Costco for my prints. The adjustment I would have to make would be to higher the exposure because the print came out a little dark.
